Ferdinand – Debut Trailer

Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation have released the debut trailer for their next animated feature. Blue Sky, which has previously given us the Ice Age series, Rio and The Peanuts Movie now wants audiences to fall in love with a gentle giant Bull, Ferdinand.

The film, based on ‘The Story of Ferdinand’ by Munro Leaf, introduces us to a big hearted and lovable Bull who would rather roam a pastor than bull fight. Judged for his impressive size, instead of his kind nature, Ferdinand sets out to change perceptions. When Ferdinand is mistaken for a wild beast, he is taken from his home and those he loves. To get back to where he belongs he puts together a crack team of animal misfits who help the bull find his way home. Can he prove that looks don’t make the Bull?

Blue Sky Studios has always produced cute animations with lovable and funny characters. Relying on gimmicks and humour rather than narrative and development. Yet this is also the studio that brought Charlie Brown and Snoopy to the big screen with such critical acclaim in The Peanuts Movie.

The debut trailer is indeed cute and displays the same appealing 3D animation the studio is known for. Humour is key in the trailer with scenes including the Bull in a China shop trope as he is causing havoc wherever he may be. Whether this is backed up by a strong narrative and developed characters we will have to see.

Directed by studio veteran Carlos Saldanha, the film stars the voice of another gentle giant John Cena as the Bull himself. The film also features the voices talents of Kate McKinnon, David Tennant, Sally Phillips, Gina Rodriguez, Anthony Anderson and many more.

Are you excited to meet Ferdinand?

Ferdinand is out 15th December
