Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events – New Trailer

The last time we saw an adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s famed children’s book series, it was the criminally underrated 2004 film starring Jim Carrey and Meryl Streep. Now, the books are making their way back to the screen thanks to current TV giants Netflix, but to be honest, it doesn’t look that great.

Violet, Claus and Sonny Bauldelaire finds themselves orphans after a fire kills their parents, and they are adopted by the villainous Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris), who is only interested in the fortune their parents left behind, and will go to any lengths necessary to get it from them, but there’s an adventure to be had for the three children in this first season that spans four books.

Is anyone else not feeling NPH as Olaf? It might be better in the actual show, as this is just a trailer after all, but as it stands it just looks like Neil Patrick Harris being himself, but with a silly voice, as opposed to Jim Carrey’s frankly brilliant performance in the original film. Still, it’s not fair to compare just yet, but the show itself doesn’t look too exciting. I’m hoping to be proved wrong.

A Series of Unfortunate Events is out January 13th
