There is no denying Martin Scorsese’s work is considered one of the best. That seems like a silly statement to make but there are people out there who haven’t heard of him and the impeccable films that he has crafted. The genius component about Scorsese, however, that makes him so good is that despite being better known for thrillers and crime dramas, he will always explore other genres and make his stamp on them too.
For Silence, he is tackling religion and shaken faith as two missionaries are tested when they travel to Japan to search for their missing mentor in a time where Christianity was outlawed.
Based on the book by Shusaki Endo, Scorsese has punted for this film for 28 years and seeing it brought to evocative life is exciting. It also stars Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driver which is perhaps the best trio of actors I could think of.
What do you think?
Silence is out later this year.
