The best movie of last year was Macbeth. The visuals. The acting. The direction. The adaptation of the story. They all came together in this evocative piece of work that honours Shakespeare whilst also carving out an original voice!
I bring this up because director Justin Kurzel, Macbeth himself Michael Fassbender and Lady Macbeth Marion Cotillard all return for the movie adaptation of Ubisoft’s popular game series Assassin’s Creed.
The film revolves around a criminal who was seemingly put to death, only to wake up in a futuristic facility that puts the inmates to work. What is that work? Well, they have to explore their ancestry and cause a riot in the past as they kill folks in a time long gone.
The history of game adaptations on the big screen have been, well, dire. The trailer does look promising when it comes to visuals, though there are elements of cheese and weird exposition, there is faith in the filmmakers and the leading cast.
Although, I sniggered at “Welcome to the Spanish Inquisition.”
Nobody really expects the Spanish Inquisition.
