Jude Law Cast as Albus Dumbledore

Since it was announced that Harry Potter spin off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, would become its own series (with no less than five feature films), the rumour mill has been going over who would play the young Album Dumbledore. Set in 1920’s New York the Beasts series follows explorer Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), as he rescues and cares for exotic magical creatures. He goes on to write a famed book on the subject which is used by Hogwarts students such as Harry, Ron and Hermione.

Played first by Richard Harris in the first two Potter films, until his untimely death in 2002. Then famed actor Michael Gambon took over the role for the remainder of the films. The role is loved by fans of the series as a powerful character and father figure to young Harry. With Fantastic Beasts leading up to the epic battle between Gellert Grindelwald and the future Hogwarts Headmaster, who could play such a role?

Well it has been announced that British actor Jude Law will take on the role of everyone’s favourite super wizard in his youth. The time period of the series means Dumbledore is a Transfiguration Professor at Hogwarts and is not yet the famed Wizard he goes on to be. The news has been met with mixed reactions, much like the casting of Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. There is no doubt that Law has some fine acting credits to his name, with The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain. Yet in the latter part of his career his performances have not been meet with the same praise. When he’s good, he’s very good but when he’s bad he’s shocking. Yet audiences will have to wait till next year to see if they like his take on the character.

The next film in the franchise will begin filming later this year for a November 2018 release date. Do you think Law is the right man for the job?
