The Detroit Riots of 1967 displayed some of the most harrowing scenes of police brutality and violence against blacks that America has seen, it’s a feat which is only starting to be brought back up to the surface thanks to the proliferation of camera phones and the internet.
The trailer for Detroit tells the story of the most well known and infamous tales from the riots, The Algiers Motel Incident, where three black men were killed and several other people (both men and women) were severely beaten.
The trailers look disturbing, as the racism within 1960’s America is played with very few punches pulled, and the fear that flows through the latter parts of the trailer will have chills running down your spine.
This is one of the films to watch this year.
Detroit is out in cinemas August 4th!
