Baby Driver – Brand New Trailer

After the first full trailer for Edgar Wright’s new action, crime, comedy Baby Driver dropped, fans are being spoiled with even more footage in a second trailer. Wright, the man that gave us Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End and Scott Pilgrim Vs the World is finally back after a four-year hiatus. The trailer shows what we have been missing from the director and looks like the wait was definitely worth it.

Centred on Baby (Ansel Elgort), a talented getaway driver who uses music to drown out the humming in his head, cause by a childhood accident. The best at what he does, Baby sees a future away from crime when he meets the girl of his dreams Deborah (Lily James). While trying to leave the criminal life behind, he is forced to work for a notorious crime boss (Kevin Spacey). His new assignment threatens his life, his new-found love and the prospect of going on the straight and narrow.

The trailer is what you would hope for any action movie. Exhilarating car chases, action, guns and for baby’s benefit, a great soundtrack. Yet this is all mixed in with light humour and characters we want to know. We see more of his relationship with Deborah as well as meeting the brilliant side cast including crime boss Spacey and a wisecracking Jamie Foxx.

As Wright works with a familiar cast in much of his work (Pegg and Frost, oh how we love you), it is great to see what he will do with such a fresh cast. This is also a much more adult role for lead Elgort, who we are used to seeing in more young adult fiction territory. The film also stars Jon Bernthal, Jon Hamm and Eiza González.

The up and coming film feels like a long wait for fans of Wright’s work. The Worlds End was released four years ago and the director’s commitment to Marvel’s Ant-Man (which he sadly left pre-production), had kept him busy. Now he is back with what looks like an action packed film, with the usual Wright traits and quirks.

Released here in June, are you excited for Baby Driver?
