British Independent Film Awards – Screenings!

BIFA, or British Independent Film Awards as we all know them, aims to promote and reward the most innovative and creative work in the UK independent film sector. The organisation not only rewards the best and brightest of Independent film but also encourages up and coming home grown talents to the public.

With their continued aim in mind BIFA will be hosting a series of monthly screenings in partnership with Vue, Odeon, and Everyman cinema across the UK. These screening promote the best of Independent film and encourage the audience to see great work on the big screen. Their first season runs from January to March and will host the following films.

24th Jan: Under the Shadow

The film is a co-produced Iranian, British Horror film. A mother and daughter are haunted by mysterious happenings in 1980’s Tehran. Set against the War of the Cities it marks the directorial debut for Iranian born Babak Anvari. The film received critical praise and won three awards at the British Independent Film Awards 2016.

27th Feb: Trespass Against Us

The Irish-American co-production stars Michael Fassbender as a man who attempts to escape the ways of his criminal family. Also starring Brendan Gleeson, the crime drama is based upon a script by Alastair Siddons and directed by Adam Smith. The film is released later this year so is a chance to see the film before everyone else.

27th Mar: The Ghoul

BIFA Discovery Award nominee The Ghoul is a tense thriller starring Tom Meeten and Alice Lowe. A homicide detective goes undercover as a patient to investigate a psychotherapist he believes is linked to a strange double murder. As his therapy sessions continue the line between fantasy and reality begins to blur.

The screenings are taking place in 20 locations across the UK so see if you can take part. More brilliant independent film screening will follow throughout the year. More info and bookings here: https://www.bifa.film/independents

Alongside theses screenings BIFA will also host BIFA Meets in association with Time Out. Another series of event which interviews exciting talent. Past meets have included Michael Sheen and Brendan Gleeson. More details on this will follow so keep your eyes peeled. https://www.bifa.film/meets
