When a film claims people have fainted in screenings, you need to ask yourself “is this true?”
It used to be a great tactic to get bums on seats, but nowadays, people are a lot more desensitised to the violence, gore and horror that it often takes a lot more to obtain the same results. Especially when a film is hyped to the limits, it can only be a let down in the end.
Going by the latest trailer for Raw, the same effect seems to be taking place. Sure, the film looks horrifically gory, and there’s plenty to sink your teeth into (pun deliciously intended) over the story of a girl who becomes a cannibal after suffering a psychotic breakdown, but the trailer itself doesn’t seem to explore anywhere new. There are plenty of films that have gone down the cannibalism route, and you have to ask where does it go from there?
I guess we’ll find out if Raw lives up to the hype when it comes out.
