I would like to think that I am a rather intelligent man. Possibly moreso than many of my peers. Failing that I believe that, with the amount of films, TV series and books that I have consumed over my years upon this planet have given me an edge over the more casual media viewers when it comes to detecting plots in films. One might say that it is my superpower, though if I were a member of the X-Men, I would be the one who gets left behind at the mansion to wash the dishes and feed the fish whilst the others are out saving the world…
Regardless, it is with these skills that I turn my attention to the latest trailer from The Surfs: The Lost Village, and hooooooooo boy am I detecting a big, steaming heap of mediocrity.
I freely admit that I am not the target demographic for this movie, having left my heady childhood innocence behind many years ago, and not having entered into the responsibility that is parenthood yet. But this trailer seems to rely far too much on infantile humour for many to be entertained in any meaningful fashion. This is before even mentioning the rather obvious looking twist that is being shouted at you in the latter half of the clip.
If you’re a parent with young children, resign yourself to watching this film, probably several times over when it gets released. Until then, save your braincells, watch paint dry instead.
Smurfs: The Lost Village is out in cinemas March 31st!
