Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg have already brought real life tragedies to the screen in the form of Lone Survivor and the surprisingly brilliant Deepwater Horizon. Next year, they’ll complete their unofficial trilogy of Mark Wahlberg being in the middle of terrible true events in Patriots Day.
Patriots Day is an account of Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis’s (Wahlberg) actions in the events leading up to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the aftermath, which includes the city-wide manhunt to find the terrorists behind it.
Berg has proved that he can adapt real life stories to the screen with a sense of respect, integrity and a lack of bias, so this tragic story seems to be in good hands. The film looks pretty good, and has a great cast including John Goodman, Michelle Monaghan, J.K. Simmons, and Kevin Bacon, who is utterly desperate for a good film. Patriots Day looks like one to look forward to in 2017.
Patriots Day is out 24th February
