In 2015, Joseph Gordon-Levitt put on a cheesy French accent to walk across the World Trade Center. This year, he’s lowering his voice to an unbelievable standard to expose the NSA. Part of me hopes this is a trilogy, and we’ll get yet another film of JGL playing real people with a ridiculous voice.
Based on the controversial real life of CIA analyst Edward Snowden, it revolves around his discovery of several harmful secrets the government kept from the public, and his mission to give the world the truth.
I don’t know a whole lot about Snowden or his story, so it could be that his voice is absolutely perfect for the guy, but it’s so damn hard to take seriously. Aside from that, the film looks pretty good, and has a great alongside JGL in Shailene Woodeley, Scott Eastwood, Tom Wilkinson, Melissa Leo, and Nicolas Cage (*gasp* Cage? In a good film? Playing a serious role? WHAT?) and it’s directed by Oliver Stone, who has greatly delivered in the past. Snowden looks like it could be an exciting fact based thriller.
