There are times where it almost feels like the reboot of Doctor Who only started yesterday, but the only way to make that happen would be to steal the TARDIS and have a little jaunt to the past. Instead, we’re now looking at the 10th series of the sci-fi classic, and it’s getting harder to ignore the cracks that are starting to appear in the façade.
After the previous series, a lot of people were complaining about the intellectual quality of the show, and how it was trying to be too smart for its own good. Whilst I am a strong supporter of more intelligent plots and less spoon-feeding of information to the viewer, there is a point where the entire ideal becomes pretentious.
As a result of this, it appears that Moffatt has listened to complaints and written a companion who comes across as incredibly impressed by the little things, heck, her first line appears to be attempting to imply that her job is to act as the layman to simplify everything to the easiest to understand morsels for the viewing public to swallow.
Whether this is to redress the imbalance caused by the complaints, or just Moffatt’s thinly veiled fuck you to the complainers is yet to be seen.
Doctor Who: Series Ten is out in Spring this year!
