Every father knows the pain of accepting that their daughters will meet new partners and find new lives. It’s important to be supportive, and to be accepting and loving of your daughter’s choices…Unless she’s dating James Franco, in which case, you need to shut that shit down. That’s exactly what Bryan Cranston is trying to do in this year’s latest comedy Why Him?
Ned Fleming (Cranston) loves his daughter Stephanie (Zoey Deutch, who is the spitting image of her mother Lea Thompson and it’s wonderful), but he absolutely does not approve of her new boyfriend Laird Mayhew (Franco), an internet millionaire who has absolutely no decency to him. The pair from a bitter rivalry, and Ned is adamant that his little girl will never marry this lunatic.
The film looks okay; Cranston and Franco look to be on top form with their comedic skills, and Zoey Deutch has already proven that she has a fantastic screen presence, but it doesn’t look hilarious, and will probably make for a good one time watch.
Why Him? is out 26th December
