During the World Wars, there was plenty of drama and plenty of horrors. But nobody talks about the aftermath, what followed when one side won?
The Innocents looks at the most horrific aftermath of World War 1.
The film revolves around a French doctor, Mathilde, helping the Red Cross with World War 1 survivors. She is rallied into a nearby convent where several nuns are pregnant after being assaulted by Soviet soldiers. Bending against their faith following the tragedy and struggling with pregnancy, Mathilde must find a way to help but finds her own faith shaken.
Directed by Anna Fontaine (Coco Before Chanel,) this looks to be a powerful movie with a tragic heart and mournful soul in the centre of it. With a stirring storyline and fantastic performances, The Innocents is going to be a heart-breaking movie.
