It’s that time of year again where we celebrate the best in the film industry including the greatest in British Films as the BAFTAs have been announced. At an early morning event, Sophie Turner and Dominic Cooper announced the latest awards that, again, brim excitement and just a little smudge of predictability.

In no surprise La La Land is the big heavyweights in the British Film Awards this year, scooping up a whopping 11 awards. But surprisingly, Nocturnal Animals and Arrival meets the second spot with Manchester by the Sea in third. Moonlight has a great collection of nominations too which is happily making all the correct waves. I Daniel Blake has also scooped up several nominations.
We’re shocked to see Emily Blunt in the Best Actress category for The Girl on the Train which, sadly, replaces Isabelle Huppert who misses out on a Best Actress nod due to the delay in the release of Elle. Dev Patel is surreally nominated for Best Supporting Actor despite leading Lion and Jeff Bridges is nominated for the same award where it should’ve been Ben Foster in Hell or High Water.
Laika is battling THREE Disney films in Best Animation with Kubo & The Two Strings and we hope, finally, it beats out but the success of Zootopia tells us otherwise.

However, this is a fine, if somewhat expected collection of nominations following from the American nominations.
What do you think?

Totally agree with you about being shocked with Blunt’s nomination, it was an awful film and nothing special about her performance at all. I don’t understand the love around Nocturnal Animals and the thing I am most disappointed about is Dave Johns not receiving a nomination for his heartbreaking performance in I, Daniel Blake!
