It’s always important to shine a light on injustice whenever possible, especially during these turbulent times.
I Am Not Your Negro is based on James Baldwin’s unfinished book, and narrated by Samuel L. Jackson.
The latest trailer released for this film is terrible. Not because it is bad, but because of director Raoul Peck’s perfectly placed archive footage to show incredibly harrowing scenes from various eras depicting violence against black people, from white supremacist groups and the police.
Interspersed between these images are excerpts from on camera interviews with the original author James Baldwin as he succinctly describes the plight of the Black American.
I Am Not Your Negro looks set to be one of the most important films to get released this year. One of the quotes in the trailer describes the film as “A wake up call to every person in America,” but, realistically, it could probably be applied as a wake up call to the rest of the world as well.
I Am Not Your Negro is out in cinemas February 3rd.
