If you have a successful horror franchise, it is practically compulsory that you milk it for all it’s worth and churn out sequel after sequel until everyone grows tired and you decide to reboot it in the hopes that enough people will suffer from amnesia and think they’re watching something new and original.

Once again, this appears to be the case for Cult of Chucky, which had a teaser trailer released recently. As the teaser reminds us, we first saw the psychopathic children’s toy over 30 years ago, and he’s back to wreak havoc on those around him.

Maybe it’s because it’s just a trailer, but the film itself seems relatively tame, with lots of jump scares and implied gore, but very little in the way of actual horror.

Perhaps this is all down to the brevity of the trailer, and we’ll start to see more chilling scenes as we get nearer the release date, but right now, it’s lacking that savage bite to thrill you with its premise.
