In September this year, revered horror author Stephen King turns 70. He is one of the most prolific writers of recent times, with 56 novels and over 200 short stories to his name. But we’re not here to talk about his books (that will be saved for our future sister site, We Write Novels on Weekends.) We’re here to discuss those masterpieces of his, which have leapt from the page to the big screen.
In order to celebrate this veteran of the written word, BFI Southbank has announced their Stephen King On-Screen Season from September 1st until October 4th.
The season will include the film adaptations of notable classics such as Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption at the BFI Southbank, as well as Carrie and The Shining getting shown at the BFI IMAX.
Other dates will give time to some of Stephen King’s favourite film picks, such as The Hitcher, Village of the Damned and The Stepfather, whilst the author’s birthday weekend is given over to a Stephen King Film Quiz and the Stephen King Summit, which will have numerous talks and discussions about his work and its adaptations.
