Donnie Darko – 4k Restoration Trailer

Donnie Darko is without a doubt one of the best films of the 2000s, maybe even of all time, and now you have the chance to see it again on the big screen. The 2001 cult classic makes it’s return to cinemas this December to celebrate it’s 15th anniversary.

Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal) doesn’t get along too well with his family, his teachers and his classmates; but he does manage to find a sympathetic friend in Gretchen (Jena Malone), who agrees to date him. He has a compassionate psychiatrist, who discovers hypnosis is the means to unlock hidden secrets. His other companion may not be a true ally. Donnie has a friend named Frank – a large bunny which only Donnie can see. When an engine falls off a plane and destroys his bedroom, Donnie is not there. Both the event, and Donnie’s escape, seem to have been caused by supernatural events. Donnie’s mental illness, if such it is, may never allow him to find out for sure.

Donnie Darko is the mind bending, breathtaking, utterly electric film that floored us all, and introduced us to the great Jake Gyllenhaal. There’s no date for the December screenings just yet, but as soon as they’re out, make sure you jump on those tickets. This is not something you’ll want to miss.

Donnie Darko is out 14th December!

  1. I’m sorry, best of all time? I know this is all opinion and you probably wrote this in ten minutes and needed a catchy opener, but you’re honestly saying Donnie Darko is potentially better than The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Matrix, Schindler’s List, Requiem for a Dream, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Silence of the Lambs and The Dark Knight?

    1. At no point did I suggest it was better than any of those films. I didn’t even mention any of those films. You decided that I said that. But yes, I do think it’s one of the best films of all time, where would I rank it? Fuck knows, but that is my opinion and I’m allowed it

    2. I personally think DD is better than Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, The Matrix and The Dark Night. It may not be as popular, but in my opinion, it is a better film. So there.

    3. “one of the” is a very general term, could simply mean its a top ten thousand film which is likely accurate.. probably in the top 25% of movies ever made

I loved this movie back then.. really cool soundtrack and fantastic direction.. also I’m still wondering how exactly one does “suck a fuck”

    4. I love Donnie Darko, but I laughed when I read “maybe even of all time”. It’s so ridiculous I didn’t bother reading past it.

    5. Not one Bergman, Fellini, Godard, Kurosawa, Tarkovsky or Kubrick film on your list? How can you possibly weigh in on what are considered some of the best films of all time when your film knowledge appears to be limited to America cinema?

    6. It may be better than several of those titles. Or all. Or none. See opinion is subjective, hence it depends who you ask. So potentially that is what they are saying.

  2. Does anyone know if this restoration is for the original theatrical release or the director’s cut? I’d like to know whether to be excited or utterly disappointed.

    1. Yes the Director’s Cut somehow wasn’t as good😦

I hope it’s the original as I missed seeing it at the cinema by 1 day when it first came out and would love to see it on the big screen. I’m guessing it will be the original as the Director’s Cut wasn’t greeted happily.

  4. Makes its* return to cinemas, no apostrophe in possessive pronouns (think his/hers/yours/etc.)

It’s = “it is” or “it has”
