Jackie – New Trailer.

History is rife with important figures and engaging stories to be translated to the big screen. Just one of those figures is First Lady of the United States Jackie Kennedy, a woman who isn’t making her first appearance on the big screen, but definitely her biggest one in Pablo Lorraine’s Jackie.

Jackie is a searing and intimate portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady (Natalie Portman). Jackie places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband’s assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband’s legacy and the world of “Camelot” that they created and loved so well.

The film looks marvelous, but I fear for Natalie Portman’s performance; bar a few performances (Black Swan mainly), Portman is an underwhelming actress, and her accent in this trailer almost sounds like a bad impression, and really grates after a while. But this is just a trailer, and perhaps the performance will work better when partnered with the full product. The film itself looks totally gorgeous, a lot of artistic flair and beautiful atmosphere, not to mention that gorgeous shot of the Kennedy’s car following the assassination. You’ll be hearing a lot about Jackie come awards season, no doubt about that.

Jackie is out 20th January 2017
