David Heyman and StudioCanal have announced the news that many of us have been eagerly waiting for. Principle photography on Paddington 2 has officially begun. The first film, released in 2014, was a critically acclaimed and loved family film so a sequel was always on the cards. The already stellar cast now includes Hugh Grant as well as Brendan Gleeson.
The first film, based on Michael Bonds much loved stories, tells the classic tale of the talking Peruvian bear who moves to London to find a new home. Taken in by the Brown’s Paddington and his marmalade sandwiches are soon at home in the big city. Starring Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi, Nicole Kidman and Ben Whishaw as the voice of the adorable bear himself.
Original director and writer Paul King is back on board. The director is known for Bunny and the Bull as well as hit series The Mighty Boosh. This time he is joined in the writers chair by Horrible Histories cast member Simon Farnaby (Yonderland) who had a cameo in the first film as the flirty security guard.
The plot of the new film revolves around Paddington who is now a local celebrity in his local community. When he sees a unique pop-up book in Mr Gruber’s antique shop the young bear takes on a series of odd jobs to buy it for his Aunt Lucy’s hundredth birthday. The book, however, is stolen it’s up to Paddington and the Brown’s to unmask the sneaky thief.
With principle photography underway the release date is set for November 2017, just in time for Christmas. Who’s excited for Paddington 2?
